Rainwater harvesting, specified to your site
Rainwater harvesting collects rainfall from the roof, filters it and stores it for non-potable uses such as garden irrigation, vehicle and equipment washing and toilet and laundry flushing. A well-designed system reduces mains water demand and can supply a large share of a property's non-drinking water.
What does a rainwater harvesting system include?
Typical systems combine a collection gutter and downpipe feed, an above-ground or underground storage tank, a filter to keep leaves and debris out of the stored water, a pump set to deliver water at useful pressure, and controls to manage levels and, where fitted, switch between rainwater and mains supply. Tank size is matched to roof catchment, local rainfall and expected demand.
Where is rainwater harvesting used?
- Homes: garden watering, car washing, toilet and laundry flushing.
- Farms: livestock water supply, washdown, irrigation and yard use.
- Commercial sites: vehicle washing, landscaping and general non-potable duties.
Is rainwater harvesting suitable for my property?
Suitability depends on roof catchment area, average rainfall in your region, storage space and how the harvested water will be used. Underground tanks suit gravity-fed layouts and larger demands; above-ground tanks are simpler to install where space and access allow.
